- School Ministry – supporting to schools in low-income communities by offering activities such as classroom reconstruction and remodeling, etc.
- Children’s Home Ministry – Collaborating through various activities with shelters for homeless children.
- Elderly Home Ministry – Collaborating with elderly homes through various activities.
We accept teams of all ages from around the world with the desire to serve, practice their faith in different ways and experience a unique adventure in another culture. When you join a short-term mission trip all you have to do is get here and our staff will take care of the rest.

“The YWAM program based in San Jose, Costa Rica is something so unique and powerful that there is surely nothing like it. The various services done by this specific YWAM section depict epitomes of showing grace, sharing God’s love and feeling the acceptance of who you are, regardless of your broken past. Everyone here has a burning passion and great deed of selfness to go out and share the message of Christ, while building long-lasting, and unforgettable bonds. Not only do these individuals work to try to change the lives of others, they relentlessly do what they can to better themselves as people, and to become more humble as well as relatable. These are people who are constantly working on themselves, as well as their faith and going out of their comfort zones to be impactful. I have had the blessing of seeing this first hand, and I am very thankful for YWAM Costa Rica and their unshakable faith in their mission and their services to various communities.” – Sose Grum –
“My experience with YWAM was fantastic! It was my first visit to YWAM Costa Rica and I had no missions experience beforehand. The YWAM missionaries and staff members took me under their wing and treated me like family. Several missionaries and staff members even visited me and members of my Church (Jessup Baptist Church) in America! While in Costa Rica, YWAM worked hard to make sure our mission team had everything we needed: food, lodging, transportation, fellowship, and friendship! Our host worked day and night to make sure we had everything we needed for our mission, including last minute supply runs and other errands. Our host also participated in missions with us when we were out in the field. Two missionary families even invited us to their home for food, fun and games! Our YWAM coordinator made sure everything was in order and made it very easy for our mission team to focus on the mission. Although our Church comes to Costa Rica to support the missionaries at YWAM, they always go above and beyond to support us. From helping us move hundreds of pounds worth of luggage and supplies to the YWAM base, to working right alongside our team members to do difficult outdoor work, to sharing times of fellowship off and on the YWAM base, the YWAM team was right by our side day and night to help make our mission trip a success and spread the Gospel to all nations. Thank you!” – James –
“My husband and I are on the board of a Christ centered youth and family missions team based out of Washington state called FLAME Missions. We have partnered with YWAM San Jose three times in the last five years, bringing teams of all ages, background and various ministry experience levels. The last team we brought was comprised of over 25 people, ranging from ages 6-70, and often we travel with at least one infant on our team. Our leadership team feels exceptionally safe on the San Jose base. We feel as if the base is well organized and that resources are utilized wisely, both on the base and out in the ministry field. I appreciate so much the base staff being willing to accommodate and assess the needs of our team so that we are not only well utilized during our stay, but also that we are stretched out of our comfort zone and grow as a team as well. We have had the opportunity to participate in a dozen or more different types of ministry during our team’s visits. From orphanage visits, community programs, Homes of Hope, Freedom Street, Metro Ministries, VBS and soccer kids ministry, church services, Bible Distribution, and I’m certain I have forgotten some. My emails are always answered promptly. The resources, costs, paperwork is all very clear and well laid out. We have sent teams to many other areas of the world over the past dozen years or so, and even to other YWAM bases. We have been very happy with the services and hospitality we have received overall at YWAM San Jose. We cannot wait to return again!” – Heidi Ford –
“We came with a big group of 25 people, flight attendants, pilots, sales people and office staff from Switzerland and Panama – Edelweiss Airlines and Lufthansa. It is so great what you can achieve in such a short time! The team was amazed by the good preparation of YWAM, the basement was finished and all the material was prepared. We divided the group in 4 teams and after 10 min everybody was busy painting, sawing, hammering. The 2 days passed very fast, we had a lot of fun. Playing with the kids and see their openness was really touching. Some of us appreciated it that we could do something with our own hands compared to our daily business tasks in the office. It was a great experience for all of us!” – Katja Mueller –
